Entry, just of High street became a famous landmark as the Ulster Author Alexander
Irvine (1863-1941) lived here as a boy.
Author of "My Lady of the chimney corner" the beautiful story of a love affair
between a bright Catholic farm girl and an illiterate Protestant shoemaker.
He started life as a little scamp in a poverty stricken family. The tiny
earthen floor dwelling where they lived had the bedroom in the tiny loft.
As he grew older he taught himself to read and write, joined the Royal
Marines, was a student in both Oxford and Yale universities and a Chaplain
in Flaunders during the great war.
